Google launches home delivery app, ‘Aero', in India

April 27, 2017

Google seems to have silently launched a new food delivery and home services aggregator called Areo for the India market. The app is available as a free download on the Google Play store and is currently operational in Bengaluru and Mumbai.

Areo aggregates food dishes and home services across various local service providers, allowing users to order food or schedule appointments with a local beautician, electrician, painter, cleaner and plumber among others.

This service, according to reports, will be initially available to customers in cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai. Launched for Android users, this app will provide services like food and general home services for people in these two cities. Among the services which are available through the app include Chefs, food from restaurants, electricians, plumbers, etc.

The users of the services can pay through cards, net banking and cash on delivery, etc.

Google will not deploy delivery executives or home services professionals of its own to service the orders. The partners will handle fulfilment of the services, while Google will charge them a commission.

It's worth noting that this is not the first time Google India has enabled transactions in verticals - it had earlier launched hotel bookings via Google hotel finder and flight bookings via Google Flights in India a few years back.
